Tips for Making Great Smoothies in a Blender

If you are the type who doesn’t like to eat raw fruits, there are many other ways to enjoy them. One of them is a smoothie.

A smoothie is a thick, smooth drink of fresh fruit pureed with water, milk, yogurt, or ice cream. Smoothies are a much more enjoyable way to benefit from the goodness of fruits. Smoothies are classic thirst-quenchers, especially during the sweltering summer season.

Smoothies are versatile beverages. Make thick and decadent smoothies by adding full-fat milk, cream, or ice cream. Elevate your cocktail offerings by making smoothies spiked with alcohol. Or, if you want a healthier smoothie, add yogurt and alternative sweeteners, if desired. Want a thinner and more “drinkable” smoothie, instead? Add more water or fruit juice.

Thanks to the blender, it allows us to make smoothies much more easily and quickly. We can put every ingredient imaginable and adjust the blend to our preference. If you really love making smoothies every day, you should invest in quality, top-rated blenders from well-known brands such as Vitamix or Oster (famous for its Osterizer blenders). Check out the history of Vitamix blender and discover how it has built its name as one of the most popular, reliable, and most trusted blender brands by most American households.

As they are called “smoothies,” it’s given that the texture should be smooth, right? The best thing about top-rated blenders is that they have enough power to produce the smoothest and the most well-blended smoothies you’ll ever enjoy – no annoying lumpy texture or chunks of fruit.

As much as you want to blend the perfect smoothie, sometimes you’d end making a smoothie that’s too thick or too thin, or tastes too bitter or too sweet to your liking.

To prevent such smoothie woes, check out the following tips to achieve the perfect smoothie using a blender. Also, read here to know the vegetables you can add to smoothies that aren’t leafy greens.

  3. Finally, add ice on top.
  4. Cover the jar with a lid and hold it down with a towel or cloth.

Tips for a less bitter smoothie:

  • If you’re making a green smoothie, use ripe and sweet fruits to neutralize the bitterness and make the smoothie taste sweeter. Use pineapples, oranges, bananas, and strawberries.
  • You may also want to try adding a little amount of vanilla bean or vanilla extract, cacao, agave syrup, cocoa powder, or flavored protein powders that can help mask the bitterness of greens.
  • Instead of mature greens, try baby greens, tops, or shoots as they are generally less bitter. You can work up to bitter greens by gradually adding them to your everyday smoothies until your taste buds have adjusted to the bitterness.
  • Turn on the blender and run to its highest speed for about 20 to 30 seconds until all ingredients are well combined.

Tips for a less sweet smoothie:

  • Add a spritz of lemon or lime juice.
  • Turn on the blender and run to its highest speed for about 20 to 30 seconds until all ingredients are well combined.

Tips for getting rid of a smoothie’s chalky or gritty texture:

  • Add a lot more fruit to your smoothie blend.
  • Use a creamier base like milk or vegetarian/vegan milk (almond, coconut, etc.).
  • Add avocado or banana to make the blend smoother.
  • Turn on the blender and run to its highest speed for about 20 to 30 seconds until all ingredients are well combined.

No matter how you would like your smoothie to be, keep on adding a little water or other liquid until you achieve your desired texture and taste.
